First Steps

The following is supposed to be a short starter-guide for participating this web site.

Login:

Regardless if you want to write your own articles for my web site or not, a login will somehow provide some interesting opportunities:

1. Once you are logged in, there will be a portlet recent changes in the left slot which shows the most recent changes of the web site.

2. You will immediately spot the state of the different articles: published (blue), public draft (green), pending (orange) or private (red).

The main page provides two options for logging in: the portlet in the left slot as well as in the upper right corner of the page. Click on new user? respectively join and fill in the required data: your name, a username and a valid email-address. Your password will then be sent to you automatically.

After your first login you will be asked for a new password instead of the automatically gererated one. Right after that you will be directed to a page with links to your own folder, to your personal preferences and to the home page.

But how can you write and publish your own articles? You can do that in your folder, where you will find a green content menu. In this menu you will find various options, that are described in detail here. For now the most important are the news, the events and the file upload.

News:

Click on add item and select the option news from the menu. Insert the required information into the form like title, maybe a short description of the content and then the main content. A simpe HTML-Editor will ease the procedure. Optionally you can upload a picture or even interrelate the news to other articles via keywords.

Then save the news with a click on the save-button, whereupon the final view of the news item appears.

The default state is, as you can see in the green content menu, public draft (green). The news-item is visible to everyone via the direct URL. To make the item visible only to you, you could transfer it into the state private (red). To achieve this you click on public draft and select make private. But usually you will want the item to be published. Just select publish for this. Reviewers respectively the site manager will then be notified to review your article and decide whether it is to be published or not. This pending state will be shown to you by the orange color of the item.

Events:

Announcing an event follows a quite similar procedure. This time you select event in the add item menu and again give a title and a short description. Then set beginning and end of the event and describe it in detail. Participants can also be announced.
Choosing one type of event from the default list is required. Furthermore you can insert url, name, email and telefone number of the contact person.

After the saving follow the same steps as described above in the news section follow.

Uploading files:

To upload files to the site select file from the add item menu and again insert title and description. Now you can pick one file from your local computer, save it and thus upload the thing.

The publishing process is analogous to the above.
